Hair care

Now that holi is out of the way am sure you have all taken the precautions with your hair and skin. Lets just go thru it anyways. My kids love to play holi too. I oiled their hair before they stepped out. You have nothing to worry if you chose to use the natural colors. Safer on skin surely. I remember as kids we’d have the colour on the skin for a few days. You still get that in the market. Seriously it can’t be good for you. So here is hoping you used the mild and natural colors.

The real beauty lies in the texture of your hair. How healthy is it? It’s not only about how long it is. Long hair un-kept or not trimmed (All due respect to religious reasons) can’t be termed as healthy. Hair should be free of split ends and that is achieved by regular trims. Oil your hair with either olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or any home made oil you prefer. Slightly warmed up and applied on your scalp and working your way down to the ends. Apply it about half an hour before shower time. That should do. Of course making time to go to the saloon to have a hair spa once in a way would be good. Even a regular oil massage at the saloon for that matter. I know you must think with a drop of a hat I tell you to go get things done, I do at times yes because you deserve that little me time. And yes this is for all. I would say that the last spa I had done last month was one with Morrocan oils called the Moroccan Oil Spa- Intense Hydratingat Lakme. They really should be treating me to write this. I did love the feel and fragrance it left in my hair. Nothing lasts for more than 2 days surely but it does make the hair feel lovely. That’s not all about hair care, its not just external. It’s all about what you eat and drink as well. A healthy diet is a must for good skin and hair. Am sure many of us have lost a lot of hair over the winter period. There is no magic to stop it but there are precautions we can take. Have we all not at some point got scared to even run a comb thru our hair? Well happens to all. If you do feel the hair fall is terrible do consult a specialist.

Since my first post I am hoping some of you have been for a pedicure or for something to pamper yourself. We all have a set of worries don’t we. It’s all about taking good care too.

A balanced diet lots of water and light exercises should do you good. Please do not believe not eating is the way to loosing weight.

There are so many fun ways to keep fit nowadays. There has always been Aerobics, Yoga, and Pilates etc. Have you considered Zumba? It’s so much fun if you love music and love to dance. Don’t think you can’t dance and all will notice that. NO. There will be many others who think like you and let me tell you when doing a Zumba session no one cares to look at each other as everyone is just having a good time and trying to keep up. Try it, am sure most places give you 1 free trial. Write in to me if you’d like me to suggest places to you. I do know a few qualified and very good Zumba instructors.

Yoga, Aerobics and Pilates are good too. It is nice to join in on one of them or something else that is available to you and does you good.

My teen readers on here should take care of themselves too. Do it by being kind to your skin and hair, eating healthy and right. Teens is the age to start eating right and eating well, you need tons of that energy for all those hectic days and extra curricular activities. Make sure you choose fresh coconut water or a fresh juice over an aerated drink, a fruit or a handful of nuts over a pizza or a burger. A balanced meal at home or if outside. You can alternate surely. How many of us like that weekly oiling of hair? 😉 This topic we shall discuss in the next addition.

The better you care for your self today the better you will feel for longer. This is for one and all.

We mummys are important too. This one goes out to all the mothers.

We mummys are important too. This one goes out to all the mothers.

Look around you, Busy aren’t we? A moment of rest could do us good. Let’s look at ourselves. Start with asking yourself, ‘Do I give myself time?’ ‘Do I stop to pamper my tired feet?’ If the answer is yes then great! Read on and let mums who do not do it know that they should.

I often see women with cracked heels and feel the urge to tap on their shoulders and let them know they could do with a pedicure. It isn’t a luxury if you don’t make it out to be one. Why is it difficult to take time out for yourself to go to the parlor once a month, to pamper your tired feet? The only reason I can see one coming up with is “no time”. My answer to that is simple- Make time ladies. You deserve it. All you need is someone to come over to do it or you step out for some peace and quiet and get it done. It can be in a place to suit your budget. Most places have pedicures ranging from Rs. 250 to Rs. 1000, if not more. A good, clean, hygienic place with clean and sterilized tools is a must. Get someone else to scrub your heels as you relax. We will always be busy with our families and that by no way means no time for yourself. A happy you will make everyone around you feel the same. Try it and let me know. We’ll build up on it as we go.

Drape it right!

Drape it right!

What matters in a sari drape? Have you put a thought to it? It is so not the 10-15 pins you plan to use or just the matching underskirt. There is more to it. It starts with the shape of your underskirt, the sari itself and the blouse that fits well and is a match to the sari. I have seen quite a few videos on you tube to spot one I like but naaaa, none I relate to fully well. So if you would like to learn it right do it. At DresSmart you are taught how to wear it right with very few pins and how to keep it in place. How to walk, and pose for a picture too. footwear is discussed because we want it perfectly right don’t we?

Its a nice feeling to be appropriately dressed. If our teens wouldn’t go to a party in Indian clothes then why would they go in western to a wedding they’ve been forced to attend?
